Arab News app promote Hajj safety

ARAB NEWS greeted the Hajj week by launching a smartphone app to help promote safety at Hajj. The app also provided a unique location-tracking service as well as real time updates and handy emergency numbers and was endorsed by the Muslim World League.

The free app was available for download on iOS and Android devices via the App Store and Google Play and offered friends and relatives around the world a way to keep in touch with their loved ones on Hajj. The location tracking service allowed pilgrims to share their location so those back home could track them in real time. As well as local emergency numbers, the app also had a list of embassies and other important local services. It also offered a live broadcast service.

Arab News is a leading English language daily based in Saudi Arabia. It launched the Hajj app as part of a digital overhaul of its operations and in particular to assist the paper’s Hajj news coverage.

Commenting on the launch, Faisal J. Abbas, Editor-in-Chief of Arab News, said, “This Arab News/Muslim World League co-operation is an ideal and practical example of a media outlet working with a non-governmental organization for the public good.”
