Barking rapist locked up for nine years

A COLD, CALCULATING, violent predator is behind bars this weekend, after smart detective work tracked him down and found the evidence to secure a conviction in court.

Last October police were speaking to a vulnerable 15 year old girl who lives in Waltham Forest when she revealed she had been raped. She described the perpetrator to them.

The police took the young girl to hospital and then specialist officers from the Metropolitan Police Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command (SOECA) began to investigate the case while also offering the victim continuing support.

The girl told police that she had met Mohammed Farah in Stratford on 2nd October.  The two had a mutual friend and began chatting. They continued to talk, drinking beer that Farah had. When Farah had won over the girl’s confidence and she thought she would be safe, he raped her – and then told her that she had to keep quiet about it or he would kill her.

Fortunately the police were able to identify Farah from the girl’s description and he was arrested the day after their first interview with the girl. He denied the accusations, but police managed to find CCTV footage which showed the two together. Police felt confident enough to charge him with rape of a female under 16 years of age.

Farah, who is aged 38, was convicted by Southwark Crown Court on 4th April. He was sentenced on 26th May to nine years imprisonment and received a ten year Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

Detective Constable Sarah Towe, who investigated the case. said: “Farah is a dangerous individual who preyed on an extremely vulnerable girl and used his disability to gain her trust. Believing she was safe in his company, the girl went with Farah to a secluded area where he then raped her.

“Farah denied all involvement in this case until CCTV was produced which disproved his original defence. Even faced with this evidence, he continued maintain his innocence, but a jury was able to come to a unanimous verdict. This investigation was a real team effort by the SOECA unit and I am pleased that a dangerous rapist is now behind bars.”
