Jenny Fisher

The Barking & Dagenham Volunteering Bureau has hosted a Dementia Friends information session at headquarters to enable dedicated volunteers to become Dementia Friends.

Seven volunteers attended the training session led by Emdad Rahman. Joan Brandon from Barking & Dagenham Volunteer Bureau said: “We run get together groups for isolated and lonely older people, many of whom have been diagnosed with Dementia or Alzheimers. We are having all our Volunteers trained as Dementia Friends.”

Dementi Friends is a social action movement led by the Alzheimers Society. The Government has encouraged dementia support organisations to reach a target of recruiting 4 million Dementia Friends by 2020.

The session was so successful that another one is planned. If you would like to attend, contact 020-3288 2160 or 020-3288 2164.
