Ben Day lifts Southern Area title in York Hall knockout

“The Entertainer” sets York Hall alight
with a blistering knockout

Emdad Rahman reports

Ben “The Entertainer” Day extended his unbeaten streak after the Teignmouth boxer took less than three minutes to send opponent Ryan “Crash Bang” Taylor spiralling out of the ring for the third consecutive time in his career.

Thirty-seven year old Day has been written off more times than he can remember, but the Devon-born star rolled back the years to record a scintillating victory at London’s iconic York Hall.

It was not long ago, at the very same venue, that Day lifted the International Masters Bronze lightweight title with another quick fire victory over Latvian Ilja Sovdra – with just 1:11 on the clock.

After a short break away from the ring Day’s rigorous training regime had prepared him both mentally and physically for the clash with Taylor. Relaxed and exuding confidence, the “Entertainer” looked sharp and his crisp shots and slick footwork helped to avoid Taylor’s punches. Such was Day’s dominance that a neutral would have been hard pressed to guess that there was a ten year age gap between the two fighters. Unable to land a single shot, Taylor was dispatched with ease soon after a damning body shot from Day hit home.

Taylor is trained by Johnny and Frank Greaves at the Peacock Gym, Canning Town. This is his third consecutive loss at attempting to lift the Southern Area belt.

Celebrating after the victory

Celebrating after the victory

A beaming Day, who owns Ringtone Boxing Gym, said: “I want to thank everyone who has been there for me, believed in me, encouraged me, supported me. You people got me through the tough times and today I celebrate with and dedicate the good times to you all.

“I never doubted my ability but the support was invaluable. I only started boxing ten years ago. I developed late but have tasted immense success. It’s put me on the map. To say I’m proud is an understatement. Special thanks to my PR manager Tim Rickson for his amazing support.”
