Boris goes to Luton Airport

Luton is a wonderful place – made all the more delightful by its renowned airport, which is so iconic there’s even a song about it and it played a leading role in a memorable advert for Campari. But it’s not Brussels.

It was Brussels that Boris Johnson was heading for this afternoon, and as Britain’s brand new and much lampooned Foreign Secretary he decided to go by military plane. Unfortunately, soon after the plane took off from RAF Northolt, technical problems arose – and it was forced to make an emergency landing at Luton Airport.

Boris thanked the crew for dealing with the emergency in a professional manner and thanked staff at Luton airport for taking his unexpected arrival in their stride.

After his brief and unscheduled stopover in Luton, Boris carried on to Brussels.
