Canning Town: shooting follows June murder

THE CANNING TOWN area of Newham is becoming a hotbed of serious crime. June ended with a woman being charged with murder and now July has ended with a second man being seriously injured as a result of a shooting.

On 29th June, Hasna Begum, 25, of Byng Street, E14 was charged with the murder of 23-year-old Italian national Pietro Sanna. She appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court on the same day and was remanded to appear at the Old Bailey. A special post-mortem examination held on 28th June at East Ham Mortuary gave the cause of Mr Sanna’s death as stab wounds.

The last day of July was just minutes old when police were called to Freemasons Road, E16, following reports that gun shots had been heard. Armed police attended the scene and found a 26 year old man suffering from a shotgun wound to his torso. The London Ambulance Service attended and took him to hospital. He is described as having a serious injury which, fortunately, is not life-threatening.

The Trident and Area Crime Command are investigating the incident and are appealing to the public to come forward if they can help.
