Derby day sees Barking progress to the semis

The Bank Holiday cup fixture bought together borough rivals Barking CC and Scintilla CC Essex in a high profile ECCL League Cup Quarter final.

Barking decided to bat first and a commanding 62 from skipper Ehsaan Afzal was enough to set up a 225 total. Scintilla players, who were playing a third consecutive day of cricket, looked tired and jaded throughout. Barking were in no charitable mood and bowled out their opponents for 112 to earn an impressive 113 run win.

Captain Ehsaan Afzal said: “A derby win always adds an extra spring in our footsteps and the win sets us up nicely for the next round. The boys were strong throughout.”

Scintilla skipper Ayaz Karim added: “The boys were tired but that does not detract anything from an impressive Barking victory. We uncharacteristically conceded 55 extras and this is what has annoyed our team the most.”
