Eden Care holds End of Life Support & Burial Conference 2017

Emdad Rahman

EDEN CARE IS inviting readers to attend the Eden Care End of Life Support & Burial – “an Islamic Perspective” Conference on Thursday, 23rd February 2017 in East London.

This conference will be examining the best practice as well as discussing end of life issues of particular concern to the Bangladeshi and Muslim communities. The Conference will aim to discuss and promote end of life services within the Bangladeshi Muslim community and try to create partnership and platforms for dialogue between the community, voluntary sector, practitioners, statutory provision and service users to discuss issues around end of life care services.

There are around 1,000 deaths each year in Tower Hamlets, with a lower proportion of deaths within older people compared to the national average. Historically, members of the Muslim community have not used hospice care facilities due to several reasons including: cultural indifferences, language barriers and lack of understanding. The number of Muslims aged 65 and over is increasing steadily and is expected to reach a 250,000 by 2030.
