This weekend Newham Leisure Centre will host Play for Rohingya – a football tournament to raise awareness of the plight of the stricken Rohingya people in Myanmar and funds and to support them.
Play 4 Rohingya is a veterans (35+) football tournament in association with the Human Aid charity and the Inner London Football League to raise funds for the stricken Rohingya refugees who are fleeing persecution.
Sixteen local teams featuring the cream of the local Bangladeshi vets scene will be locking horns to see who comes out on top. The draw for the football extravaganza will take place on the NTV Satellite TV channel on Saturday night.
Tournament organiser and Team Rohingya Captain Abul Hussain said, “We Are a regular group of friends from the football community and we want to make a difference in helping to ease the suffering of the Rohingya people. These are fellow humans who are undergoing unimaginable horrors, hardships and torment. I hope our humble efforts will highlight what is happening in Myanmar and urge people to make a stand against this tyranny.”
