PC KASHIF MAHMOOD, 29, was found guilty of assault by beating at Hendon Magistrates’ Court on 9th February. He will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 19th February for sentencing.
PC Mahmood was based in Hackney. On 5th May last year he was on duty in Clapton, helping to implement a police cordon. A man repeatedly came up to the cordon, and there was then an incident involving the man and PC Mahmood in which the man sustained a cut to his head.
The Metropolitan Police referred the incident to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (which is now called the Independent Office for Police Conduct) on 11th May last year the IPCC investigated and sent a report to the Crown Prosecution Service, which decided that PC Mahmood should be prosecuted. PC Mahmood was charged on 11th December.
PC Mahmood is still at work, but on restricted duties. Now that he has been found guilty, he will face misconduct proceedings.
