Ilford car park murder: man arrested

ON 29TH MAY, an unresponsive body was found in a car park in Castleton Road, Ilford, near a badly damaged car which had been on fire. A post mortem examination found that the cause of death had been “blunt force trauma” – in other words, it appeared that the man had been murdered.

Police appealed to the public for help as they investigated the incident. On 4th June, a 36 year old man was arrested in Croydon on suspicion of murder. He is still in custody.

Formal identification of the victim has not yet taken place, as the police are still trying to trace and identify the victim’s next of kin.

Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith of the Homicide and Major Crime Command, who is leading the investigation, repeated his appeal for assistance from the public, saying, “I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in and around Castleton Road and Green Lane from the evening of Sunday, 28th May, into the early hours of the next day. Even if you think your information won’t be of use, I would urge you to make contact and share that information with us.”
