Local history celebrated at launch of #50TH exhibition

Fifty years ago, the boroughs of Poplar, Stepney and Bethnal Green merged together to form the London Borough of Tower Hamlets – and the events of those five decades are celebrated in the #50TH: Half a Century of Tower Hamlets exhibition. The exhibition gives a fascinating insight into just how much life has changed through objects, pictures, maps and posters, many of which were provided by residents.

Joy Wotton, who visited the launch, said: “It’s an excellent exhibition and the talk that Malcolm Barr-Hamilton, Borough Archivist, gave was very lively. Thank you for a most enjoyable evening.”

The exhibition continues until 6th August. Full details of the many other anniversary events taking place from May to August can be found on: www.ideastore.co.uk
