More arrests in East London by anti-terror cops

THREE MORE people have been arrested in East London by Counter-Terrorism police as part of the investigation into the London Bridge attack – bringing the total number of people arrested since the incident to 17, five of whom are still in custody.

The latest arrests came ate on Wednesday night, as police raided two premises in East London. A 29 year old man in one of the properties, in Ilford, was arrested on suspicion that he was engaged in the preparation of terrorist acts. Two further arrests were made on a street in Ilford: a 27 year old man, also on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts, and a 33 year old man, arrested on suspicion of possessing controlled drugs with intent to supply.

A further three arrests were made by officers from the Counter Terrorism Command in East London on the night of Wednesday, 7th June – arising out of a separate investigation, not linked to the London Bridge attack. The three men were all arrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of terrorism offences under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000. One man (34) was arrested in Newham; a second man (37) was arrested at a different address in Newham; and a third was arrested in Waltham Forest. The three are being held at a south London police station.

New light has been shed on the three London Bridge attackers by CCTV footage obtained by the Times. This appears to show the three attackers outside a gym in Barking chatting together for around ten minutes before dispersing. The newspaper has handed the footage over to the police.

NHS England has reported that as of Wednesday, 29 victims of the London Bridge attackers remained in hospital – of whom ten were still in a critical condition. The eight people who died in the attack have now been named. They include James McMullan from Hackney and Ignacio Echevarria, a Spanish national who is believed to have been working for HSBC in Canary Wharf and living in Poplar.
