Officers re-vist West Ham site of New Year stabbing

OFFICERS will return to Memorial Avenue, West Ham on Sunday, 7th January – a week after a young man lost his life in one of the four fatal stabbings which happened in London around New Year’s Eve.

The murdered man has been named by police as Taofeek Lamidi, 20, from Lambeth. He was stabbed just after 7.30pm on New Year’s Eve in Memorial Avenue, West Ham.The Emergency Services came quickly to the scene and tried to save him but his injuries were too serious and he was pronounced dead at 8.22pm.

Lamidi’s next of kin have been informed and formal identification is awaited. A post mortem was held on 2nd January, which confirmed that the cause of death was  a stab wound to the heart.

Now the Metropolitan Police Homicide and Major Crime Command investigation team is renewing its appeal to the public to come forward with any information about what happened.

DCI Cranwell said, “Taofeek was repeatedly stabbed, and was found lying in the street suffering horrific injuries from which he did not recover. Violent incidents such as this have no place on London’s streets, and we are urgently following up a number of lines of enquiry to trace those involved and responsible.

“We know that the victim was with a number of people at the time of the attack, and I urgently need to trace this group of young men. Memorial Avenue is a busy residential area close to West Ham station. I know that there were people in the area who witnessed the incident, and I need them to come forward. Any information provided will be treated with the strictest confidence.”

Detectives hope that they will jog memories when they return to the murder scene on Sunday. Anyone who was in Memorial Avenue on New Year’s Eve is asked to call the incident room on 020-8721 4005.
