Police appeal for help over Ilford shooting

Shah Yousuf

A firearm was discharged at a 40th birthday party being held at the Praba Banquesting Hall in the High Road in Ilford late on Monday night and going into the early hours of Tuesday morning.

This was the report a man made at Ilford Police Station just after 6am on Tuesday this week. He told police that there were several gunshots.

By the time police arrived at the venue, no one with any gunshot injuries was present. However, police heard that a 22 year old man had gone along to an East London hospital with gunshot wounds to his leg. He is thought to have life changing injuries – but not life threatening ones.

The matter is being investigated by officers from the Trident and Area Crime Command. Clearly there is concern that although no one was killed in this particular incident, a gun at loose in the community can be used again – and if there is a next time, the incident may be even more serious.

Police ask that anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information about it should phone the Trident East Reactive Unit on 020-8217 7374. Alternatively, you can provide information to Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111 anonymously.
