Prison for assault in East London hotel

KNOCKING A man down some stairs at a hotel on Shoreditch High Street has landed 27 year old Lewis Beard with a 23 week prison sentence. Beard was also ordered to pay £7,800 in compensation and £650 in court costs.

The assault took place just after 6pm on 27th December last year. Initially police were called to deal with a disturbance at the hotel. Later they were called back to deal with the assault. Beard’s victim, a 49 year old man, suffered a head injury and received treatment at an East London hospital before being discharged.

Beard was first arrested on 13th January on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm but was eventually charged with assault by heating on 12th May. He initially pleaded not guilty but he later changed his plea. Beard first appeared at Thames Magistrates Court on 26th May and was sentenced at Stratford Magistrates’ Court last week.

Detective Constable Lee Jackson from Hackney CID welcomed the sentence, saying, “The custodial sentence passed on by the courts shows that violent behaviour will not be tolerated.”
