Red Market brings summer fun to Shoreditch

For the sixth year running, a number of art and music events will be running in Shoreditch under the umbrella name of the RED Market. Organisers fear this may be the last year that the festival-come-pop-up will be able to as developers plan to build a five star hotel on the site Red Market uses. This year’s event is therefore running under the theme of “The Last Days of Shoreditch”.

red2Music events will include parties and club nights from promoters associated with Shoreditch, such as Blue Note, Blah and Norman Jay. The Red Gallery will be providing art installations from Gavin Turk, Ben Eine and others and Junkyard Golf Club will be laying on a crazy golf course.

There will be screening of key sports events such as Euro Championship football, the Wimbledon final and both opening and closing ceremonies of the Rio Olympics. The organisers hope the setting will provide a family atmosphere for watching these key events. Alongside the entertainment there will be a range of street food to sustain revellers. featuring Yeah Burger and Crabbie Shack among others.

The Red Market runs from 25th May till 28th August. It will be open every Thursday and Friday (6-11.30pm) and Saturday (4-11.30pm) and is situated on the corner of Old Street and Great Rivington Street. For more information and ticket offers, go to: www.lastdaysofshoreditch.co.uk.

There is disabled access to most of the RED Market, but not to the mezzanine levels. However, the ground of RED Market is wood chip, which may prove an issue for some. There is a disabled toilet in the RED Market. There are no Halal dishes on the menu, but there is a wide choice of vegetarian snacks and meals.
