Save Rukon fundraiser is a huge success

The Save Rukon fundraising dinner was hailed a tremendous success after a full house attended a blockbusting evening of networking, food and fun.

rukon-3Rukon Khan is a final year Honours student at Sylhet MC College and is suffering from a rare and deadly blood cancer. The talented student has been admitted to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mijib Medical University Hospital, Dhaka. The estimated cost of his treatment is £60,000 and it has proven impossible for his family to meet this.

After hearing of his plight the Beanibazar (a region in Sylhet, Bangladesh) Welfare Trust joined other British Beanibazari organisations to take the initiative and raise funds to pay for Rukon’s medical costs and support his family.

The fundraising appeal on the night raised £38,000 with a special donation of £5,000 coming from the Bangladesh Beanibazar Social & Cultural Society USA. The event, which had a 100% donation policy, was hosted by The Royal Regency, Newham.

Organiser Mahbub Ahmed was jubilant, saying “I would like to thank this amazing and generous crowd for their fantastic support. There were also many who couldn’t attend the fundraiser tonight but have made some tremendous pledges. The success of tonight would not have happened without the support of so many esteemed guests and organisations.”
