Scintilla bounce back after opening day loss

Strength of character was abundant as Scintilla CC bounced back from a disappointing opening day loss to record back to back victories.

The opening day of the Essex County Cricket League Premier Division saw Scintilla face Bow Green at Fairlop Sports Ground. Bow Green reached 83/8 from 26.2 overs, with Paul scoring 28 and Rayon 11. Scintilla failed to capitalise and were bowled out for 78 from 17.1 overs. Ishaq Shawn was the top scorer with 21, with Abul Hasib adding 14. J. Stanley reached bowling figures of 3/14, and Sherwin recorded 2/27 as Bow Green won by 4 runs.

Scintilla bounced back the next day at the Whitbread Sports Ground, as Ayaz Karim led his team to a close win over Safe Skills in the National Cricket League. Scintilla scored 224/9 from 40 overs with Zishan 71, Rishad 40, Shihan 38, Nobel 35 the top scores. Safe Skills refused to buckle and reached 216/10 from 39.3 overs. Asif was the top scorer with 46 but fell agonisingly short as Scintilla won by 8 runs. Zishan Abedin was named Man of the Match.

The weekend was rounded off with a big win over Redbridge CC in an Essex County Cricket League cup game. Jubel Ahmed scored 84 runs and took 1 wicket as Scintilla stormed to another win.

Scintilla captain Ayaz Karim said: “It was very unpleasant to lose to Bow Green the way we did on Saturday. It is testament to the spirit within the squad that we were able to bounce back in such devastating fashion.”
