Scintilla defeat Redbridge to reach Cup Final

Md Ismael

SCINTILLA CC made light work of Redbridge CC to reach the final of the Essex County Cricket League (ECCL) Cup final 2017.

It seemed Adil Ejaz’s squad were in a hurry to wrap up proceedings and enjoy the rest of the sun filled day with their families as Scintilla shot straight out of the traps at break neck speed.

Junaed Rahman Tanin Nanna started off as chief tormentor and it was the all rounder’s precise bowling which wrestled away the advantage and set the momentum and time for a Scintilla onslaught after dismissing Khurram Iqbal for 18.

Ishaq Shawn took over the baton and was in bullish mood with a brilliant spell of bowling. The cultured all rounder was prominent in a famous Scintilla CC victory with 5 wickets for 5 runs. The first to go was Fahad Khalid on 47. Adil Ejaz claimed the scalps of Amandeep Singh and Fahad Ali before Shawn completed his virtuoso performance either side of Syed Iftekhar sending Humad Mahmoud off for a duck.  The fifer resulted in a shift of power after Redbridge had reached 50/0 with a great start to their 40 over innings.

After tea Scintilla enjoyed what turned out to be little more than a training exercise with Walid Ahmed (13), Ashraful Islam (39), Junaed Tanin (19), Ayaz Karim (7), Juwel Roy (2) and man of the match Ishaq Shawn (29 not out) seeing the Barking & Dagenham outfit home.

Scintilla captain Adil Ejaz commented on his teams performance, “What a performance and the fantastic effort in the field from every single player today ensured that we stand tall with an epic win. The bowlers and batsmen were just immense. We will take a few days to rejuvenate and begin preparations for the final. We haven’t won anything yet.”

Scintilla Cricket Club have dedicated the win to club captain Ahmed Choudhury, who is taking an international break. Club Chair Emdad Rahman MBE added, “Ahmed Choudhury has been the cornerstone of this club for over a decade. It is his vision and tenacity which has ensured not only survival for us but a trophy laden-ten years. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, Ahmed will continue to run matters with the management team, but we will miss his physical presence greatly for a while. The best thanks we can give him is to bring the trophy home.”

Scintilla will play Aztecs CC in the final of the ECCL Cup on Saturday, 9th September 2017.
