Serious attack near Cambridge Heath Station

A MAN IN his late 20s was seriously injured in an attack which took place at the junction of Hackney Road and The Oval at approximately 11pm on Saturday, 9th September. Police are now appealing for assistance from the public in finding the assailant.

The victim was walking along the road when a man and a woman approached. The man uttered some sort of greeting as he neared the victim – and then hit him in the face, with great force.  It is not known where the suspect went after the attack

The victim was able to make his way to the nearby Queen Adelaide pub. He called out for help and then collapsed just outside the pub. The London Ambulance Service attended and took the victim to an East London Hospital. The victim has a serious injury to his eye and at the time of writing it is possible that he will lose his sight in one eye.

The suspect is described as a male in his late teens or early 20s, with a tanned complexion and either a bald or shaved head. He was around 5ft 6ins tall and had an earring. He was wearing a khaki jacket and black trousers. He was carrying a black “man bag” and had a chain around his neck. His female companion is described as black, of similar age, with short, shoulder-length black hair.

Detective Constable Simon Carson of Tower Hamlets CID said: “This is a horrific attack on an innocent man walking home after an evening out with friends. We are appealing for any information as to who the suspect is and what happened. The consequences of this attack will stay with the victim for the rest of his life.”
