“Christmas is such a special time – it has been a lot of fun getting ready for the party, and we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone on the day,” said Silk Court resident Breda Ordell. “I particularly enjoyed making mince pies and Christmas cake and singing Christmas carols,” she added. Party animal Breda, aged 81, has lived at Silk Court care home for two years.

Residents have been making the most of the festive season. There’s been a trip to the pantomime at the Hackney Empire, a trip to see the Wheelchair Tennis Championships, piano concerts and lots of Christmas carol singing – but for many the highlight was the Christmas party.

Home manager Marcia Forsythe said: “Everyone is excited for the Christmas party – it’s the perfect way to start the festive season. Christmas can be tough for some people, so it will be a real boost for the residents’ wellbeing.”

As an added extra, John Biggs found time between juggling his two full-time jobs to pop into the Christmas party and meet the residents.
