Sonali Othith Masters tournament heats up

This week saw the second round games of the Sonali Othith Masters tournament – a five week football tournament for veteran footballers. Games take place at the Mulberry Sports & Leisure Centre.

Week 2 of the tournament saw Dawatul Islam and Poplar go on a goal blitz to signal their intent to win the championships. In the first games, Shagor were beaten 4-1 by Poplar, while Dawatul Islam hammered Ocean 4-0 with goals from Rongu Miah, Hamid Yusuf, Khasru Miah and Soleman Hussain.

Both teams continued their purple patches into the second set of games. Poplar defeated Shadwell, while goals from Zoinul Abedin, Rongu Miah, Soleman Hussain and a hat trick from Aktar Hussain completed a Dawatul Islam demolition of CAG.

Zoinul Abedin from Dawatul Islam said: “It’s been an entertaining evening and the veterans have rolled back the years to produce some great performances tonight.”

Dawatul Islam are sponsored by the Human Relief Foundation. Khoyrul Shaheed from the charity said: “This is a special tournament and some of the standards I have seen on the field have been fantastic. Congratulations to all teams and Sonali Othith for organising this.”
