Sweet scarves at Oxford House

Women who made it to Oxford House on Friday, 9th October were in for a treat, as Malaysia’s premium hijab brand came to the community centre to launch its exclusive scarf range in the UK. The hijab is still a talking point in British and European cultures, and the topic of diversity in fashion is getting an airing too: what a time for a luxury producer to showcase its new wares.

Known for its beautiful embellishments and luxurious fabrics, Sugarscarf encourages women to celebrate their inner Muslim by experimenting with their style with the versatility the brand has to offer. Sugarscarf has introduced the “Madison Scarf”: a copyright protected creation combining the inner and outer hijab.

The Kuala Lampur fashion house has remained a firm favorite with Muslim women from the moment it first opened its doors. It was founded in 2008 by Madam Eyqa, an IT graduate, with the help of her husband Mr Zulkarnaen, a former engineering student. Mme Eyqa wanted to combine her love of technology and fashion to help bridge the gap between style and necessity. From humble beginnings, the husband and wife team have turned a simple idea into a thriving business, with the UK being the first port of call on the road to international expansion as the Asian fashion brand shares its innovative and versatile designs with its Muslim sisters in the west.

“I am so happy to be launching in London” says founder Madam Eyqa “We went through so much to get here and I am delighted to be launching my UK collection on Friday.”
