Ten out of ten for Newham’s anti-drug work

COMPLAINTS ABOUT drug dealing in Newham prompted police to set up Operation Duntroon in an attempt to make a major improvement to the streets. Their work has been rewarded as ten men were today given custodial sentences.

Newham CID and the local neighbourhood policing team worked together on Operation Duntroon for four months, concentrating on the Stratford and New Town ward. The weight of evidence was sufficient to deliver convictions of all ten men who were arrested. As well as custodial sentences, the ten also received five year Criminal Behaviour Orders.

Details of convictions

Evanildo Gomes, 26, of St. Andrews House, Barking was charged on 6th July with six counts of the supply of class A drugs and two counts of possession with intent to supply of class B drugs. He appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court on 7th July. He was sentenced to three years and ten months’ imprisonment and a Criminal Behaviour Order for five years.

Tito Cassule, 19, of no fixed abode was charged on 6th July with six counts of the supply of class A drugs. He appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court on 7th July. He was sentenced to three years two months’ imprisonment and a Criminal Behaviour Order for five years.

Joelson Miguel Balde, 21, of no fixed abode was charged on 6th July with three counts of the supply of class A drugs. He appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court on 7th July. He was sentenced to three years and two months’ imprisonment and a Criminal Behaviour Order for five years.

Jose Mario Sa, 23, of Horsebridge Close, Dagenham was charged on 6th July with three counts of the supply of class A drugs. He appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court on 7th July. He was sentenced to three years and five months’ imprisonment and a Criminal Behaviour Order for five years.

Janilson Viera, 26, of Cowbridge Lane, Barking was charged on 6th July with five counts of the supply of class B drugs and one count of possession of class B drugs. He appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court on 7th July. He was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment suspended for two years, a Criminal Behaviour Order for five years and 150 hours community order.

Claude Greenaway, 24, of Plaistow Road, Stratford was arrested and charged on 14th July with four counts of possession of a Class A drug, namely two counts of heroin and two counts of crack cocaine. He was remanded to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on 15th July. He was sentenced to three years and two months’ imprisonment and a Criminal Behaviour Order for five years.

Terrel Paul, 24, of Marriott Road, Stratford was arrested and charged on 14th July with three counts of possession of a Class A drug, namely heroin, and four counts of possession of a Class A drug, namely crack cocaine. He was remanded to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on 15th July. He was sentenced to two years and nine months’ imprisonment and a Criminal Behaviour Order for five years.

Bruno Da Silva, 23, of no fixed abode was charged on 8th July with one count of supplying cocaine, one count of supplying crack cocaine and two counts of supplying a class B drug, namely cannabis. He was remanded to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on 10th July. He was sentenced to three years and five months’ imprisonment and a Criminal Behaviour Order for five years.

Benedict Larbi, 21, of Flint Close, Stratford was charged on 13th May with one count of possession of an offensive weapon and two counts of breach of an ASBO. He was remanded to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on 10th July. He was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment and a Criminal Behaviour Order for five years.

Rui Santos, 22, of First Avenue, Dagenham was charged on 15th July with three counts of supplying a class B drug, namely cannabis. He was bailed to attend Thames Magistrates’ court on 14th August and was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment suspended for two years and 150 hours community work.

Chief Superintendent Ade Adelekan, Borough Commander for Newham, said, “This has been a very successful operation, which has seen a large number of people arrested for being involved in the supply of class A and B drugs. We want to reassure business and the community that dealing drugs in Newham will not be tolerated. Drug dealers are harmful to our communities and take advantage of vulnerable people. Our operations against this criminality will be tireless and unwavering until we have dismantled this criminal group and reduced crime within the Stratford and New Town ward.”
