Zisan Abedin scored 90 as Scintilla CC beat West Essex CC in the National Cricket League. The match took place at the Rolls Sports Ground, and captain Ayaz Karim returned from injury to lead the victory charge.

Scintilla star Abedin has now scored a half century five times in his last eight games. He was supported by Aminul Shihan, who scored 58 as Scintilla racked up 276 – with added contributions from Touhid Billah (43) and Ashfaqur Rahaman (15).

What looked like a spirited fightback from West Essex fizzled out as opener Ubayd was bowled in the third over. His team could not recover from the loss of their star batsman, and Scintilla took swift control of the game. Abul Hasib was the tormentor in chief with four wickets. Zisan Abedin, Ashfaqur Rahaman and Ayaz Karim took two wickets each as West Essex were bowled out for 99 after 26 overs.

Scintilla captain Ayaz Karim said: “We showed desire and urgency and this was significant in our big batting total today. West Essex has some big hitters so I’ll happily take a 168 run win.”

Man Of The Match Zisan Abedin, who suffered blurry vision in the field after being struck in the face by a ball, was pleased with his performance but highlighted the contribution of his team mates. “Obviously I’m pleased with my innings but we are only as good as our team mates allow us to be. Everything was clockwork today and for this reason alone we all share the credit.”

Club captain Ahmed Choudhury concluded: “It was good to see some key performances from our big game players. I was particularly impressed with how the team are gelling. It’s a great win.”
