March 22, 2018

TOWPATH WALK, E9 – near the Mabley Sports Ground and within a stone’s throw of many of the venues built for the 2012 Olympics – is usually the last bit of Hackney people go through before they reach Tower Hamlets.

But last weekend, it was the site of a killing.

Reports came in to the emergency services at approximately 8.15am that a man with stab wounds had been found. Police and the London Ambulance Service went to the scene and found a man with multiple injuries.

The victim was pronounced dead shortly afterwards and was later identified as Tyrone Silcott, 42. Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command began an investigation and the area was shut off for a while to allow them to do so.

One arrest was been made shortly afterwards. A 30 year old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was taken to a north London police station and was later released as investigations continued.

On 21st March, Rowmando Lewis, 28, of Cunningham Avenue, Enfield was charged with murdering Mr Silcott. He was due to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on 22nd March.

Police are appealing for members of the public to come forward if they were in the area at the time or if they have any other information about what happened.

Anyone who can help the police is asked to contact them on 020-8345 3715, quoting reference CAD 2020/18MAR. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111, where you can give information anonymously.
