A HUGE LINE-UP of UK popstars have this morning released a charity single to raise funds for the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire. The single is a special recording of Bridge over Troubled Water.
The single was arranged by music entrepreneur Simon Cowell, who has a home in Kensington & Chelsea, the borough in which the Grenfell Tower is located. It is released as the latest estimate is that the final death toll will reach 79 and as survivors are becoming increasingly infuriated by bureaucratic bungles in the official support schemes.
The Simon and Garfunkel song was chosen because it is very well known, but also has very appropriate lyrics, dealing with reaching out and offering support.
The list of popstars who have taken part in the new recording includes: Stormzy (who opens the song with a specially written rap) Sir Paul McCartney Brian May Roger Daltry Robbie Williams Celine Dion Liam Payne Louis Tomlinson Louisa Johnson Emeli Sande MBE Rita Ora Pixie Lott Paloma Faith James Blunt Craig David Skepta Ella Eyre Bastille Dua Lipa London Community Gospel Choir Tokio Myers (pianist winner of Britain’s Got Talent) In addition, Gareth Malone led a local community choir which also made a contribution.
