POLICE WERE called out in the early hours of Wednesday, 2nd August. There were reports that there had been a stabbing at Movers Lane in Barking, at the junction with Ripple Road.

When the police arrived they found a young man later identified as Joshua Bwalya – suffering from stab wounds. The London Ambulance Service also attended, and despite their best efforts they had to pronounce Joshua dead at the scene.

Two other young men, aged 16 and 20, were found nearby – also suffering from stab wounds. They were taken by the ambulance to separate hospitals and they were arrested on suspicion of murder. The 16 year old was later discharged from hospital and released on bail pending further inquiries. The 20 year old man also left hospital – but he was held in custody at an East London police station.

A post mortem was held on Joshua on 3rd August and confirmed that the cause of Joshua’s death was multiple stab wounds. On 7th August, two more young men were arrested on suspicion of murder. Both are in custody at an East London police station. The police stressed that despite these latest two arrests, their investigations are continuing and they are still appealing to the public for help.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Holmes of the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command, leading the investigation, said, “Joshua’s young life was cut short by a senseless act of violence when he was approaching the prime of his life. The attack was not only cowardly, but brutal. I urge anyone who has information that can help our investigation to come forward and help us to bring Joshua’s murderers to justice.”
