By Md Talha Sylhet Sadar 0-2 Beanibazar

BEANIBAZAR MADE IT two out of two with a measured display in the latest Greater Sylhet clash against Sylhet Sadar.

Sylhet manager Jabid Ullah sent out another young and enterprising side intent on nullifying their opponents with an attacking formation, but an energetic Beanibazar team countered through quick movement on and off the ball to race into a 1-0 lead after Sayad Zaman provided the assist for a trademark Abul Hussain finish.

Abdal Ahmed made his Beanibazar debut and looked assured, flanked by Amran Ahmed and Kamal Chowdhury, while Abdul Sabur’s pace caused havoc in the Sylhet half. Just before half time another slick move involving Saim Hussain, Khalid Ahmed and Atiqur Rahman saw Abdul Wadud feed Abdul Wahid for the second goal.

Beanibazar changed the whole team at half time, and the second half saw the game open up more with Sabur and Jahangir Salam twice going close – but legendary Sylhet keeper Helal Uzzaman was in no mood to concede further and his agility within the sticks kept the scoreline at two.

With energy levels dropping in the latter part of the game, veteran keeper Kunu Miah was called on to make two outstanding saves from Abdul Kahhar and Shumon Miah. Team Head Coach and Manager Emdad Rahman said, “We were inspired to have my friend Dulal Ahmed come along and support us after travelling in his wheelchair to the match venue. Jabid Ullah has a strong team and we were prepared for an all-out attacking side. Taking the game to Sylhet helped us put our stamp on the game and laid the foundations for a good win. In my opinion Sylhet Sadar will be dark horses at the tournament this year. We now put this behind us and prepare for a strong Bishwanath team next Monday.”

Assistant Manager Abdul Hamid Yusuf added, “We were glad to have ex-Bangladesh National Parliament MP Syeda Jebunnessa Haque address both teams before kick off. The team looked comfortable in possession, and many players were put out of their comfort zones tonight. They all put in an excellent shift. Well done everybody.”
