AS YOU MAY have heard, polling day is 8th June! This may seem a long way away, but there’s only ten days to go.
Now the Stun Your Gran Facebook page is having a drive to remind voters – particularly young and first time ones – that if they can’t get to a polling station in person, they can appoint a “proxy”. The deadline is 31st May, so there’s only a couple of days to go.
A proxy is someone who goes to the polling station and casts a vote on your behalf. This method of making sure you don’t lose your vote is useful if you have only just found out that you won’t be in the area where you are on the electoral register on polling day. Some people want to go to vote in person – but then they find out that they are called away on work, or there is a family emergency somewhere else.
•If you need a proxy vote, go to the official government site to apply. Act today: the site allows you to download an application form, but you still have to take the completed form in to the Town Hall. Go to: https://www.gov.uk/apply-vote-proxy
