Bow Boys BMX Club meets after school on Wednesdays at the BMX pump tracks which were built as part of the Olympic legacy. Backing from cycling charity Sustrans has ensured that Club members have bikes to ride and training by professional BMX coaches. This is very much a pilot project for Sustrans, which hopes to be able to help more BMX Clubs in the near future – if it can raise £200,000 to fund expansion across London’s Olympic Boroughs.
Bow Boys’ BMX Club is open to pupils in Years Seven to Nine of Bow Boys School. Pupils have thrown themselves into the project, with the school organising a competition to design the team kit the boys will need when they start entering BMX competitions. The Canary Wharf Group, whose 70 acre empire is lit up at night, has raised a magnificent £5,000 for floodlights so that the Club can train in winter.
Sustrans has helped Club members make a short video about themselves, which you can see as one of our featured video clips or at: http://youtu.be/KJ9EQsJHlyI.
