A BOW MAN has been sent to jail for 14 years after being found guilty of two counts of rape and one charge of supplying a Class A drug. Amos Mbonu, 48, of Arrow Road, E3, was convicted at Blackfriars Crown Court in July. He returned to the Court last month for sentencing.

Mbonu was sentenced to 14 years in prison for each count of rape and six years in prison for supplying a Class A drug. These sentences are to run concurrently.

The rape occurred after Mbonu’s victim was walking home after a night out. Mbonu was driving along the same road – and began talking to her. The pair went to a nightclub before returning to the car. Mbonu then tried to obtain money from the woman and then forced himself upon her, raping her in the car.

The woman was able to escape after the crime and reported the matter to police.

Detective Constable Zoe Di Carlo of the Met’s Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command, who led the investigation, said: “Amos Mbonu is a dangerous offender who preyed on a lone, vulnerable female and took advantage of her in the most horrific way. I would like to thank the victim for her unwavering support and courage throughout the investigation. Mbonu is now in jail and the public are safer because of that. We would urge any victims of a sexual offence to report contact police, safe in the knowledge that they will be fully supported.”
