POLICE HAVE now released CCTV footage of an “acid attack” that took place in May as they attempt to track down the suspect. There were witnesses to the early evening attack and police are asking them to come forward.
The attack occurred at approximately 6.20pm on 2nd May in Dane Place in Bow. The victim was a delivery driver working for a local takeaway. As he sat in his car, putting address details into his sat nav, a young man on a bicycle rode up and demanded money. The driver said he had done – and then cyclist then sprayed him in the face with a liquid which smelt of ammonia.
As the driver tried to wipe the liquid off his face, the suspect tried to open the driver’s car door, but it was locked and would not open. The suspect then tried the passenger door on the vehicle, which he did manage to open. He then rode away.
The driver ran back to the takeaway, from where the police and ambulance service were called. An ambulance took the driver to hospital where he received treatment. His injuries were not life changing and he was discharged.
Tower Hamlets CID are conducting the investigation and they are keen to find the suspect, even after this time. He is described as a white youth on a black hybrid cycle. He was wearing a black hooded top, blue jeans, black shoes and a grey/green snood.
Detective Constable Paul Clare of Tower Hamlets CID said, “This was a horrible assault on a takeaway delivery driver in the early evening. Witnesses were in the area and saw the assault. We are asking them to come forward and help us with our enquiries.”
