AS TOWER HAMLETS grows ever more crowded, the borough’s open spaces become ever more important. One of the most highly treasured spaces, the Cemetery Park, is making the most of the summer with a range of events.
Wild Plant Folklore Sunday, 17th June Explore plant folklore on a guided walk relating to plants found in the Cemetery Park, including St. John’s Wort, Bird’s Foot Trefoil, Herb Robert, and Viper’s Bugloss.
Guided Walk Sunday, 17th June (admission free) Join this tour to learn about the fascinating heritage of the Cemetery Park and its permanent residents. This month, the walk is led by one of the Park’s Trustees, Marilyn Baltutis.
Evening Wildflower Walk Tuesday, 19th June A walk through the cemetery looking at the wildflowers now in season, focussing on Perforate St John’s Wort, Ivy Broomrape, Meadowsweet and Dropwort.
Midsummer’s Eve Walk Tuesday, 19th June As the evening progresses, butterflies are gradually replaced by moths, bats emerge, some day flowers close, night flowers open, shadows grow long and dusk falls. Enjoy a special evening exploring the wildflowers in the Park.
The Summer Fair will be held on Saturday, 30th June, and the Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery are appealing for volunteers to help on the day.
Summer Forest School takes place for our younger citizens on various dates from the end of July to the end of August.
