Close call as Scintilla defeat Tennyson

Scintilla Cricket Club consolidated their fourth place this weekend as Tennyson CC was narrowly beaten at the Peter May Sports Centre. In this Essex County Cricket League premier Division match, Tennyson won the toss and decided to bat first. The visitors were bowled out for 157 in 44.2 overs. For Tennyson, Munaf scored an impressive 79 – with Moiz on 24. Abul Hasib took 2/25, Ayaz Karim 2/26, Zishan Abedin 1/10, Sajal Rahman 2/31 and Walid Ahmed 3/13.

Scintilla took 39.2 overs to reach their target but were helped by the opposition fielders failing to take three easy catches. Malaysian opener Ahmad Norharif Hamidon was top scorer with 46, Ishaq Shawn and Zishan Abedin both struck 23, Ashfaqur Nobel 17 and Walid Ahmed 18. Tanin and Rifat Mahmud teamed up for 13 not out to steer the Barking side home. For Tennyson, the quick fire Habeeb took 4/24 as Scintilla won by 2 wickets.

Man of the Match Walid Ahmed said: “It was tense but we welcome the twenty points with open arms.” Ahmed has been in top form and this is the second successive game in which he has been the stand out performer.

Scintilla captain Ayaz Karim added: “It was an ugly win today, but this is what a league campaign is about. All good teams conjure up wins, even when they don’t play their best. We have lots to take away and improve on but will enjoy this win against a very good side.”
