The Hotel Prince Regent in Chigwell was the venue as husband and wife team Kamru (Kam) Ali and Rina Begum of Stratford-based Apex Accountancy Services hosted a glitzy evening of dinner, entertainment and awards.

The Apex Community Awards 2016 were held to celebrate the achievements of shortlisted winners. Excellence in the community awards were handed out to a host of proud recipients for their outstanding achievements.

Kam Ali said: “It’s been a special evening, surrounded by special people. Some of the achievements of our award winners here tonight are breathtaking and we hope that their stories can inspire others to follow in their footsteps.”

Rina Begum added: “Our awards showcase some of the fantastic work being done within our communities. The standards were very high and we thoroughly congratulate everyone for demonstrating such excellence.”

Aminah Rahman, aged 12, from Chesterton Community College in Cambridge, received an outstanding achievement award for her creative writing. In 2015 Amina won the Young Muslim Writers Award for a poem she wrote. She said: “I’m really happy and wasn’t really expecting to win an award. I’ve had fun this evening and I’m going to put this award in our family trophy cabinet.”
