Cyclist injured in Stepney collision dies in hospital

A CYCLIST who was seriously injured after being hit by a car in Stepney Green has died, three days after the collision. The accident happened in Aylward Street just after 11pm on Thursday, 6th August.

The cyclist who died has been named as Chris Powell, 51. He was treated by paramedics and quickly taken to hospital, but he died on Sunday, 9th August.

The driver of the vehicle which collided with Mr Powell was arrested at the scene of the accident. It is understood that the car he was driving was travelling at great speed.

The driver was later named as Parvez Rahman, 33, of Russia Lane, Bethnal Green. Rahman appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court on 8th August. He was charged with attempted murder and remanded in custody until a second hearing on 4th September at the Old Bailey. He may now face additional charges in the light of Mr Powell’s death.
