On 11th July, a one day multiple arts festival will take place in Dagenham Village. Dagfest, is a new free, fun, outdoor festival for all ages featuring home-grown talent and international performers in the heart of Dagenham. It will be a community event, with family friendly arts and performances curated by local residents working with Creative Barking and Dagenham..

Events range from acrobatic comedy, playful gorillas, a terrific trampolinist, puppetry and clowning in the Wonderful World of Mr E, confetti canons, a sci-fi themed trapeze act. Local stallholders will be selling food, drink, ice creams and crafts alongside music from the acclaimed Bollywood Brass Band.

There will be free arts and craft workshops, spaces to relax in the shade and free circus workshops for those who sign up. There will also be an exciting chance to get involved in making a collection of 50 one minute films about Barking and Dagenham people and places from the back of a Ford transit van.

Dagenham has a strong sense of community and Creative Barking and Dagenham (CBD) was set up to help create accessible and inclusive art in the borough. It is a three year project (2014-2016) for people living, working and socialising in Barking & Dagenham, funded by Arts Council England and Barking and Dagenham Council. The mission of CBD is to create new ways for local people to experience outstanding arts and creative activities, and to promote the borough as a place where exciting art – of all forms – is made and shown. This Saturday’s festival should be a good start!
