IT’S NOT OFTEN England win a cricket World Cup – but the Women’s Team romped home with the Cup last weekend. And East London News is convinced the team drew inspiration from their meeting with the ELN team nearly three years ago.
It wasn’t an easy victory. The England innings started slowly, but the team built a score of 228 for 7 from contributions from several players. Strong scoring from India – particularly Puna Raut’s 86 – left the crowd on tenterhooks. It was a flurry of late wickets from England – including six from Anya Shrubsole – that cleared the way for England to win by nine runs.
England’s winning women players will now be turning their thoughts to the Kia Super League. This round-robin competition sees matches at twelve different venues between 10th and 26th August, with a finals day on 1st September in Hove.
