Excel Award 2017 celebrates excellence

Darul Ummah has held its annual Excel Awards to celebrate excellent achievements in the community and education including those taking SATs, GCSEs, A-Levels, university courses and/or Islamic studies.

The awards, organised by Dawatul Islam UK & Eire, honour those who have done exceptionally well to make themselves, their families and communities proud. High achievers from schools, colleges, universities and the community gathered to celebrate their successes and to share their inspiring stories.

Winners for this year included Rashid Ali, who cycled to Makkah with Abdul Hannan; Abdul Mukith from the Hajj Riders who cycled to Madinah; Khoyrul Shaheed for his extraordinary work with the Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh; Zoinul Abidin for his tireless support for the community; Rafi Uddin for achieving outstanding “A”-Level results (he isnow studying Physics at UCL) and community leader Nur Baksh.

Razneen Shah secured the top spot for GCSEs with 13 grades of A* & one further GCSE at grade A.

Shabbir Kawsar, founding Chair of the Excel Awards said, “This has been an evening to celebrate excellence and we should all be inspired and very proud of the achievements of the people assembled here tonight.”
