Community activist Fokrul Islam has been recognised by the London Federation of Sports and Recreation with a Voluntary Award 2016.

The Federation is the voice of voluntary sport in Greater London and through its wide representation on sports bodies is able to influence sports policies by diplomacy. The Federation considers the volunteer sector as the major contributor to sport in the region and runs an award scheme for long serving sports volunteers. Awards are given for ten, 20, 30, and 40 years of service to sport.

After picking up his award Islam extended his gratitude to the badminton community. He said: “I have enjoyed tremendous support throughout, which has brought me to this point in my life – and I would like to give special thanks to Shah Kabir Imran, who nominated me for this award, and Shamsul Islam (Mashuk) for all the help he has given me. Also, I would like to thank Ataur Rahman, who has supported me and encouraged me from the very beginning of my badminton journey. Lastly, I would like to thank Dipok, Aminur, and Mahid for their kindness and support.”
