Audiences awaiting the release of Airlift, starring Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur, on 22nd January, have been able to whet their appetites with the official trailer – which clocked up three million views in its first 24 hours online.
Airlift could be starting a trend: later this year, the real lives of public figures such as Indian Cricket Captain Mahendra S Dhoni, former cricketer Mohammad Azhrauddin and the late heroic flight attendant Neerja Bhanot will be depicted in reel-life.
Airlift itself is an edge-of the seat thriller based on true events during the 1990 Gulf War which saw the world’s largest civilian evacuation in history – over 170,000 Indians were airlifted using 488 flights in just 59 days. The film focuses on the heroic story of the Kuwait-based Indian businessperson Ranjit Katyal, who masterminded the rescue operation – played by Akshay Kumar, who unveiled the official trailer on Twitter.
