As the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow proved to be a blistering success with England’s haul of medals pushing past 100, be inspired to get fit and push yourself to the limit with a new outdoor gym in Tower Hamlets.

The council has installed a five piece outdoor gym set in Leven Road for residents to get active in the great outdoors for free. Gym equipment at the open space consists of a treadmill, cross trainer, chest press, leg press and spinning bike providing an accessible resource for residents while widening usage of parks.

Lutfur Rahman, Mayor of Tower Hamlets, said: “We are always looking at new ways to encourage residents to exercise regularly to lead healthier lifestyles. The outdoor gym at Leven Road is an exciting way to attract people who might be put off by going to a traditional gym but like the idea of training out in the open.”

Cllr Ohid Ahmed, who has been campaigning for improvements to Leven Road, went down to try out the new equipment for himself. He said: “I am thrilled the outdoor gym is complete and we have already had some positive feedback as people are raring to use the equipment.”

Cllr Shafiqul Haque, Cabinet Member for Culture, added: “I hope residents will make the most of all the sporting opportunities we have available in the borough from the outdoor gym, to Zumba classes and water sports.”
