THIS COULD BE the best day you ever spend at the dentist. It’s hard to keep track of which hospital is which, these days – but Barts Health has just announced that its annual Health Open Day will take place in the Royal London Dental Hospital from 11.30am-3.30pm on Saturday, 16th September.
There will be lots to do.
•You can go on a tour of the Royal London Hospital museum and meet surgical staff who are making history with their use of virtual reality technology.
•If you are looking for work in the health service, or you would like to do an apprenticeship, the recruitment team will be out in force. You will be able to speak to staff from a range of specialisms and find out about their areas of work – and how you could go about joining them. There will also be information about volunteering opportunities in the Trust and teams from all the emergency services. Take your CV!
•There will be a big emphasis on finding out about health care. If you’ve ever wondered how your kidneys work, or how you can prevent tooth decay, or what the risks of chewing betel nut and paan are, you’ll be able to find answers to your questions from a range of interactive health information stalls.
•There will also be practical stalls offering help with stopping smoking, health eating. etc. as well as a teddy bear clinic, where children can get their teddy checked out and learn about how teddy (and the children) can stay fit and healthy.
•Other activities on offer include taster massages, face painting, Giant Operation, henna art and hair braiding.
•Admission and the activities themselves are free and food and drink will be available for purchase.
