DETECTIVES ARE appealing to the public to help them identify and find a man they wish to speak to in connection with an attempted rape which took place early in the morning of Saturday, 7th March in Hoxton Street.

Police were called to the scene at 5.45am. They found a woman, in her 20s, who reported that a man had come up behind her, chased her and had then pushed her down onto the ground and had tried to rape her. She had managed to get away from him and had then shouted for help, and he had run away.

Police investigating the crime have looked through CCTV footage and they have found a recording on a man walking through the nearby Kingsland High Street around 20 minutes before the attack happened. They would like to identify the man and question him.

Detective Constable Duncan Brown, from CID at Central East Command Unit, who is investigating the incident, said, “This is a serious incident and we are extremely keen to identify and speak to the man in the CCTV images. If you recognise him, it is imperative that you let us know immediately. All calls will be treated in complete confidence.”

Anyone who believes they know the identity of the man is asked to call police via 101 and quote reference CAD 1622/7 March. Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111 and give information anonymously.
