Help us “boycott” G4S

G4S provides security systems for major Israeli prisons and detention centres, which hold Palestinian political prisoners from occupied Palestinian territory inside Israel. Human rights organisations have documented systematic torture and ill treatment of Palestinian prisoners, including child prisoners, detained within Israel.

At the moment – despite its record of human rights abuses, including in Palestine – G4S has contracts for maintenance in Tower Hamlets schools. Tower Hamlets Palestine Solidarity Campaign has launched a petition asking the Council to disqualify G4S from any new contracts with the borough. This petition will be presented at a full council meeting on 21st January, in addition to a question regarding contracts with unethical companies such as G4S and Veolia. If the petition reaches 2,000 signatures, it will automatically trigger a debate at full Council. It’s well on the way to reaching that target – and with your help it can get there. Sign the petition on: https://www.change.org/p/tower-hamlets-council-disqualify-g4s-from-bidding-for-contracts-in-tower-hamlets?recruiter=34661247 Please sign and share the petition before 21st January.

The organisers are calling on everyone to come to the lobby on the night of 21st January to show the extent of popular feeling against giving G4S public contracts whilst these human rights abuses continue. Lobbyists will be outside the Town Hall from from 6pm until the Council meeting starts (around 7.30pm).

Tower Hamlets and Jenin Friendship Association (THJFA) will have joint stalls with THPSC outside the Ideas Store on Saturday 17th January and Saturday 7th February. Their next meeting will be on Thursday, 5th February: contact THJFA on twinjenin@hotmail.co.uk for more information. Disqualify G4S:
