THE INDIA-UK Year of Culture officially began on 28th February, with a launch at Buckingham Palace hosted by The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. Now the High Commission of India has formally marked the launch of this special cultural year at Holborn’s India House.

The reception introduced a whole year’s worth of events and entertainment showcasing the incredible diversity of India while bringing people together to celebrate 70 years of India’s independence. The reception offered an assorted palate of Indian food and drinks, which were relished by the guests.

The reception was opened with classic Indian sitar music, introductions and speeches from key figures including Salman Chishty and High Commissioner Yashvardhan Sinha. The speakers marvelled at the richness of the tapestry of cultures, languages, ethnicities and religions which form modern India.

Displays around the United Kingdom – including in Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and Manchester – will be showcasing India’s rich history, creativity and diversity. Events include India Season at the Science Museum in September and the Independence Gala, which will be celebrated at the Royal Festival Hall on 4th October. The UK will be left bedazzled by the contribution India has made to the UK and the world.
