Jailed for injuring pedestrians

A CARELESS young driver collided with three pedestrians – and earned himself a journey straight to jail, losing his driving licence on the way.

Haris Najeeb, 19, of St Martin’s Avenue, E6, failed to stop following an accident in Central Park Road, E6, on 27th October last year. He had collided with, and injured, three pedestrians: a boy and a girl, both aged eleven, and a 60 year old woman.

After an investigation carried out by the Metropolitan Police Road and Transport Policing Command, he was found and arrested on 6th November. Najeeb appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 2nd May, where he pleaded guilty to three offences. Last week he was sentenced to two years in prison for causing serious injury by dangerous driving and a further four months in prison for failing to stop at the scene of a collision. He pleaded guilty to driving with no insurance and was also banned from driving for three years and ordered to take an extended re-test before he can be allowed to drive again.

Too often young drivers think they are invincible – and too often it takes a serious incident to make them realise this is not the case.
