THE ICONIC Joanna Lumley was the guest of honour as the celebrated British actress officially opened the Sunseeker International stand at the London Boat Show.
Lumley, who is best known for playing Patsy Stone in the sitcom Absolutely Fabulous, was joined at the event by Britain’s Got Talent Finalist Jack Pack.
Sunseeker’s 40-metre yacht “Thumper” made a star appearance in Absolutely Fabulous The Movie in 2016, where Lumley’s character Patsy and co-star Edina, played by Jennifer Saunders, lounged on the prestigious luxury yacht in the bay of Cannes.
Lumley is a strong supporter of Sunseeker’s chosen charity, Macmillan, and was alongside Robert Braithwaite CBE, DL, founder of Sunseeker, to cut the ribbon to open the stand. There was also a swing performance from Jack Pack, who featured in 2014’s Britain’s Got Talent.
Joanna Lumley said, “I’m absolutely thrilled to be here. I think the craftsmanship in these vessels is just awesome, so once you get over the shock and awe of the luxury and the glamour of it all just look at how they’re made, and how they’re finished and just take a look at how everything is completed and how perfect they are. And so as working vessels they are awesome. I love them! If I could, I would rent one. I say get out onto the water. Britain has always been good about messing about with water because obviously we’re surrounded by it.”
Indian born Lumley has twice been to Bangladesh. “I adore it,” she added, before offering some words of wisdom to young people: “Live in the moment. Enjoy everything possible. Admire what’s beautiful, discard what’s horrible and have a fabulous time. Cheers sweeties!”
